Brenda Coggan

Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE)

Brenda is a Credentialled Diabetes Educator with the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA), now consulting privately at Baw Baw Physicians.
Originally from East Gippsland, Brenda graduated from Monash University in 2005 and brings nearly two decades of nursing experience across adult and paediatric care. She has worked in several tertiary hospitals in Melbourne and Brisbane across a range of clinical settings.

After completing her postgraduate studies in 2015, Brenda began working as a Diabetes Educator at The Royal Children’s Hospital in 2016 and became credentialled with ADEA in 2017. She continued her work at the Royal Children’s Hospital until 2022, and has since gained extensive experience in diabetes education through roles at Austin Health, Mercy Hospital for Women, and West Gippsland Healthcare Group.

Specialist Expertise
Brenda supports both adults and children with:

  • Type 1 Diabetes (including LADA and MODY)
  • Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
  • Insulin initiation and titration
  • Insulin pump therapy (Certified Pump Trainer: Medtronic, AMSL, Ypsomed, Omnipod)
  • Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM)
  • Automated insulin delivery systems – now considered best practice for Type 1 Diabetes
  • Diabetes and exercise management
  • Pregnancy planning for women with pre-existing diabetes
  • GLP-1 therapy initiation
  • Pre-diabetes support (Note: Medicare rebates are not available for pre-diabetes care)

Services & Medicare Rebates
Brenda offers comprehensive diabetes education and support, including:

🔹 New Diabetes Diagnosis Education – Includes a complimentary blood glucose meter or a CGM sensor trial (All patients are eligible for a free CGM trial)
🔹 Bolus Calculator Setup – Optimising insulin doses for Type 1 Diabetes
🔹 Insulin Initiation & Titration – In conjunction with a CGM trial for data-driven dose adjustments (Insulin titration form must be signed by the prescriber)

Consultation Fees (with GPMP 721 & TCA 723 rebates applied)

  • Initial Consultation (60 minutes) – Out-of-pocket: $90 (includes complimentary meter or CGM trial)
  • Review Consultation (30 minutes) – Out-of-pocket: $40
